As a computer scientist…
Like many other Korean college students, Moonyoung's career as a computer scientist suddenly started as he entered his college in 2001, Seoul National University Computer Science and Engineering department. Nevertheless, he worked hard to catch up with his colleagues who started studying computer science years ahead of him and he was able to stay in the top rank during his 4 years of college study and graduate as a '' student.

In 2000, Moonyoung Kang was magically hypnotized and decided to major computer science in 2001 with no reason. Before then, he had no knowledge of what computer science is. However still, while doing undergraduate study in Seoul National University Computer Science and Engineering department, he always ranked as one of the top students in most of his classes achieving GPA of 3.99/4.30.

As a Lindy Hopper…
Moonyoung, more often called 'Moon' on the dance floor, first learned to move his body through martial arts at the age of 7. For more than 10 years he learned various martial arts, however, he didn't like 'fighting' and was never good at nor liked martial arts. Quitting martial arts, he searched for an alternative physical activity and encountered Jitterbug in April and Lindy Hop in September 2007 and soon realized that this was it.

Luckily, when he started learning Lindy Hop, a number of great instructors, such as Kevin St. Laurent and Jo Hoffberg, Juan Villafane and Sharon Davis, and Davis Thurber, moved to Pittsburgh. Not missing this chance, he took as many swing classes as he could afford and quickly built good fundamentals.

About a year later, he helped Lisa Tamres, a local instructor in Pittsburgh, found the Steel Town Stompers, the first Lindy Hop performance group in Pittsburgh, and became one of the first members. He worked as one of the group leader and created and perfomed choreographies such as 'Till Tom special' and 'All the cats join in'.

In 2009, he moved to Boston area. With a much bigger scene, he is expecting to have more exciting experience that can help him advance his swing dance career even more.

and soon fell in love with it. He started learning Lindy Hop from local instructors, such as John Fulmer and Lisa Tamres. However, shortly after, a number of international level instructors, such as Kevin St. Laurent and Jo Hoffberg, Juan Villafane and Sharon Davis, and Davis Thurber, poured into Pittsburgh. Moonyoung attended most of the class of these instructors and quickly learned numerous styles and techniques. After a year, Moonyoung, with other dancers in Pittsburgh, founded Steel Town Stompers, the only lindy hop performance group in Pittsburgh.
